RON EDEN : PHOTOGRAPHER – 1960 to present:

My interest in photography developed in tandem with writing and the conceptual development of ideas, but it wasn’t until an opportunity presented itself in ’60 to bring all these talents into alignment that the photography aspect evolved – and very rapidly. It all started like one of those show-biz movies. In this case, the hired photographer – quite famous in his time – fell ill, so the ad agency I worked for as a copywriter used the photographs of people I had taken merely for use in the finished layouts in an all-media advertising campaign for one of Australia’s banks . In 1962, I joined Australia’s first multimedia production house. This provided the chance to make the most of all of my abilities experience many other aspects of photography, particularly the broad canvas of popular culture.

After all those years of being a popular culture photographer / writer, the stardust is still on my sleeve…

Some of the people I have turned into silver and ink are:
Adrian Rawlins Air Supply, Alice Cooper, Arnold Shwarznegger, Barry Humphries, Bette Middler, Bill Haley, Billy Thorpe, Bob Hawke. Carlos Santana, Count Basie, Dave Brubeck, Eartha Kitt, Eddie Fisher, Elton John, Errol Garner, Gary Glitter, Gerry Mulligan, Gordon Chater, Graham Kennedy, Harley Parker,Jean Shrimpton, Jethro Tull, Jimmy Page, Johnnie Ray, Johnny Mathis, Mel Gibson, Pink Floyd, Richard Tyler, Robert Hughes, Robert McNeil, Robert Plant, Ronnie Robertson, Roy Orbison, Sandy Dennis and Twiggy. Record covers include AC/DC's "High Voltage" and Hush's ”Touche”.

I also worked on contract for Harry M Miller, contributing front-of-house and publicity shots of Hair, Jesus Christ, Superstar, Butterflies Are Free and The Rocky Horror Show.

In 1968, I toured Australia with the Rolling Stones.

Much of this work was syndicated internationally. These days, I work as a multimedia photo-iconographer, exploring acoustic space as opposed to visual space, Zen – creating blank spaces to make expressions and photographic impressions of Planet Earth after the effects of climate change and global warming.
